This weekend is the three-day Memorial Day holiday and the unofficial start of summer. To celebrate, I'm looking at Lemonade Sun And Other Summer Poems by Rebecca Kai Dotlich [J 811.54 DOT] and will share two small summer delights. The first is the title poem:
Lemonade SunI don't know about you, but I grew up on fudgesicles, and, the occasional ice pop, so this one resonates with me!
Popsicle stains.
Fudgesical fun.
Strawberry sizzle--
lemonade sun.
DragonflyWings that you/could whisper through--isn't that lovely?
This sky-ballerina,
this glimmering
jewel,
glides in a gown
of lucid blue--
with wings that you
could whisper through.
Visit the Poetry Friday Round-Up being held today at TeacherDance.
Enjoy the long weekend, and on Monday, take a minute to remember the reason for the holiday. Just a reminder, the library will be closed on Monday.

It looks like a lovely book, Diane. Thank you for the poems. And yes, I grew up on Fudgesicles too. Thank you!
I like this. I am so ready for summer!
